Etnies Social Recruiting

One of the ways companies are getting desperate to recruit social followers is by emailing their opt-in members. Here is an email from a young and hip apparel company called Etnies (that I used to wear in my 20’s and early 30’s). How do you think the brand/logo police at Google, Facebook, and Twitter would react?

Interview with Brett Butterfield, CEO of Pixelpipe

I interviewed Brett Butterfield from Pixelpipe on the MOTODEV Android Podcast. Really interesting conversation on their media sharing gateway, their Android App, the Android SDK 1.5 (aka Cupcake), and listener questions. Listen to the podcast on BlogTalkRadio and let me know what you think.

Update to LinkedIn Groups – Less Spam! Wahoo!

LinkedIn: MOTODEV: Start a Discussion

Not sure how many of you are subscribed to any LinkedIn Groups but recently I’ve seen an influx of job postings on each of the group’s I’m subscribed to. In the past there was no way to filter those out besides your own email program but now LinkedIn added a feature to mark if the topic or question asked is a job post. Also, you as the asker of the question can get notified on any new comments. Try it out and let me know what you think. If you aren’t subscribed to any LinkedIn Groups go to http://www.linkedin.com/groupsDirectory and do a search for your alma-matter or company. If you are subscribed to a bunch of groups do you think this feature will curb the spam? Do you think groups are helpful or just another logo on your profile?

My Top Requested Feature for LinkedIn

I was surfing yelp.com for San Francisco restaurants for Valentine’s day and noticed quite a few restaurants that I wanted to try out but not necessarily this Saturday.  Yelp has a cool bookmark feature that allows you to tag restaurants to review or try later w/ your custom note. Here is a photo of the bookmark feature:
The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant - Marina/Cow Hollow - San Francisco, CA

Once I saw and used that feature, I immediately thought of how useful it would be on LinkedIn! Numerous times I’ve been searching for a particular contact and I go thru maybe 10-15 profiles that weren’t the right one but some of them could of been used for something else. On LinkedIn there is no way to tag your contacts that you would like to use later. Just like Yelp.com, they should have a similar bookmark or tag feature so I can keep track of all my searches and viewed profiles.  I don’t want to add them as a connection or get introduced at that particular moment but instead “save it for later”. Would this be useful to you? How many searches and profile views do you go thru until you find the right person to contact? Let me know by adding your comment below.

Social Media 2009 Predictions

Here are my social media predictions for 2009:

  • Metrics will be key as companies will need to see a ROI from social media. Smaller social media metrics companies will be bought out by companies like Omniture and maybe even Cisco to provide business with an end-to-end solution.
  • Executives in  all industries will understand the need to communicate with their customers at an individual level and will promote that within their company.
  • Video blogs will become increasingly popular with less fully-produced videos from companies. The faster the content gets posted the better.
  • Social media communication tools at the enterprise will increase and be managed within a centralized marketing/pr team. Product managers will be able to respond to blog posts about their products and the lead social media pr/marketer within the company will be able to track that communication.

What are your social media predictions in 2009?

Who is your favorite real estate agent?

Ed Gory

Ed Gory

I met up with my favorite real estate agent in the SF Bay Area, Ed Gory, and talked about how he uses technology in his day-to-day business. He is a big networker in finding new clients and similar to social networking his friends are the ones that refer him his business. Ed Gory is one of the few real estate agents that have started using the online world in expanding his network. He is on Twitter, Facebook, has his own real estate podcast on iTunes, on LinkedIn, has his own blog, and random fact is a voice-over artist. How many real estate agents do you know who are in tune with technology like Ed? Not too many!

Enjoy this video of us walking thru his neighborhood in Redwood City, California.

Who is your favorite real estate agent and how do they market themselves in a unique way? Post a comment to this blog. Ed can be reached at ed@edgory.com or via his web site at edgory.com
